Streetboarding (previously known as 'snakeboarding') is unique, fun, and very addictive; combining the elements of snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing into the one extreme board sport.

Streetboarders are able to carve around the streets with style and ease, throwing down huge tricks wherever and whenever they want. They have complete control over the board, their direction, their movements and feel "as one" with their board. Best of all - They never have to take their feet off of the board when skating!

The unique thing about streetboards is that all momentum is generated by the riders upper body, in conjunction with the turning of their feet. Streetboards are designed in a way which allows the rider to propell themselves forward in a snake-like motion (hence why the sport was originally called 'snakeboarding') by simply turning their toes together and swinging their shoulders inwards, and vice-versa.

Riders have an enormous amount of control over their boards and are able to gain speed very quickly, and stop just as fast. The turning-angle on streetboards is so sharp that a rider can skate full-speed towards an object, then at the very last minute turn a full 180 degrees and ride away smoothly.

Streetboards can be ridden anywhere you can ride a regular skateboard; skateparks, streets, roads, halfpipes, etc.

Streetboarding tricks are a combination of skateboarding and snowboarding manouvres. Streetboarders are able to do all the same grinds as skateboarders, and all the same aerial tricks as snowboarders. Obviously, board flip-tricks such as kickflips, shove-its etc are nearly impossible and very unpractical on streetboards, however some people have done these and are also experimenting with one-footed tricks.

Riders are pushing the boundaries with streetboarding. Going bigger, and harder than ever before thought possible. Some of the sports best riders are landing tricks such as: Double Backflips, Rodeo 900's, Backflip to 50-50 Grinds, Misty Flips Down Stairs + much, much more. The possibilities are endless.

StreetboardersIf you are a snowboarder, streetboarding is one of the best things you could possibly do when there is no snow. The aerial tricks and grinds/slides are so similar, and you will feel right at home throwing down 720's over launch boxes in no time.

A common question for a lot of people when they see a streetboard is "Why ride a streetboard, instead of just getting a normal skateboard?".

There's no definitive answer here, as it all comes own to personal preference & difference of opinions. Hell, why not ride both? Who ever said you could only stick with one sport? Learn to skateboard, streetboard, snowboard, bmx, do it all!

A key point we want to make here, is that although the tricks are very similar and the boards are ridden on the same terrain - Streetboarding and skateboarding are completely different sports, just like snowboarding and skateboarding. Therefore, it is impossible to judge/compare the two sports fairly.

  • The exact same trick (e.g. Frontside 360 Spin) takes more skill & effort on a skateboard, compared to on a streetboard. But for this very reason, streetboarders are able to pull off much bigger tricks than skateboarders (e.g. Tony Hawks 900 spin was a pretty big deal, yeah? Well, there are loads of streetboarders who can do 1080's etc with ease). But you cannot fairly compare the tricks between the two sports, as they are completely different.
  • It's laughable when people look at a streetboarder throwing down huge tricks at a skatepark and say "That's cheating!". Because guaranteed if the streetboarder gets off his/her board and lets the other person have a go at it, they will usually have trouble even moving a few metres, let alone throwing down any tricks. Streetboarding isn't cheating, it's a totally different sport! Skateboarders use griptape & kicks. We use bindings, just like snowboarders. It all comes down to practicing your chosen dicipline, be it skateboarding or streetboarding.
